A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STONE HIGH SCHOOL TOMCATS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND "MISSISSIPPI COACH OF THE YEAR" PETER GEORGIAN FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998-1999 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT.

WHEREAS, the Stone High School "Tomcats" Boys Basketball Team won the State 4-A Championship Tournament for the second consecutive season, after compiling a most impressive 34-1 record; and

WHEREAS, this season of excellence included the following tournament championships: Perry Central Tournament Championship, District 8-Class AAAA Championship (6 out of the last 8 consecutive years), South Mississippi Regional Tournament Championship (third consecutive year), and the State 4-A Championship (State Champions in 1979, 1991, 1998 and runner-up in 1997); and

WHEREAS, the Tomcats are led by Coach Peter Georgian who was named "Mississippi Coach of the Year" and District 8-4A Coach of the Year, and Assistant Coach Todd Miller, both of whom fine-tuned the athletic skills of the players and instilled a team attitude; and

WHEREAS, these outstanding Tomcat players received the following tournament team honors: Roderick James (Most Valuable Player in District 8-4A for the third consecutive year, All-District, All-South Mississippi and All-State, McDonald's All-American Honorable Mention, All-Hattiesburg Area Team, All-Gulf Coast Team, Most Valuable Player on Gulf Coast and Kiwanis Club Player of the Year), Ricky Blackmore (All-District, All-South Mississippi and All-State), Terry Galloway (All-District), Shannon Harris (All-District, All-South Mississippi and All-State, All-Hattiesburg Area Team and All-Gulf Coast Area Team), Brian Campbell (All-District), and Willie Breland (All-South Mississippi); and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this championship team which has a tradition of excellence in basketball, and has brought honor to its school, community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Stone High School Tomcats Boys Basketball Team and "Mississippi Coach of the Year" Peter Georgian for their outstanding 1998-1999 season and for winning the State AAAA Tournament Championship for the second consecutive year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Peter Georgian and the Principal of Stone High School on behalf of the team, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
